Hey Kids, Grain-free Granny here, today we are going to talk about coconut.
Is Coconut a Nut or a Fruit?
This may surprise you, but COCONUT IS A FRUIT.
That’s right kids, the coconut is not a nut. It seems somebody got a little creative with the naming of this one. It is easy to understand how the mistake could have been made. It does sort of look like a giant nut. And we see it growing on palm trees, BUT, it cannot be a nut because the palm is not a tree.

No, kids, Granny has gone soft in the head, it really is true. The palm is botanically not a tree but, in fact, a giant stem.
So, what exactly is the coconut? A member of the drupe class, coconut is a fruit, just like avocados and olives. (Yeah, I know, Granny once thought those were vegetables, too.) Other fruits in the drupe class include mango, peach, apricot, and raspberries, all of which you can find baked into Granny’s sweet treats.
